Alcohol News

Study Shows

College Binge Drinking

Worse Than Suspected

The Reuters news agency reported that a survey conducted by the Prevention Research Center of the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation studied alcohol consumption among college males. The study showed that binge drinking among that population may be much worse than what has been reported in previous studies.

Whereas binge drinking is considered to be having five or more drinks in a row, most studies rarely count the total number of drinks consumed. In this latest survey of one thousand male college drinkers, the researchers found that the majority had consumed 24 or more drinks in a row and that students drank at least twelve consecutive alcoholic beverages more than ten percent of the time.

The report indicated that this was shocking news, yet anyone that's been on a college campus lately wouldn't be so surprised. The fact is most colleges are breeding grounds for alcohol abuse and all of the problems associated with it, such as underage drinking, driving under intoxication, promiscuity and alcohol poisoning, among other things.

This is a huge problem in America that is overlooked and even justified as normal behavior. When asked about his drinking on the campus of an SEC school, 19 year-old Joshua replied, "They [campus police] don't bother us. They don't mind as long as we're not damaging any property or hurting anyone."

This perceived viewpoint on college drinking spreads into getherings before football and basketball games, at fraternity parties, on weekends, on weekdays, and really even for no other occasion other than the drinking itself.

According to a young male who was addicted to alcohol and got his life back through Narconon Arrowhead, "In college we didn't just drink at the parties, we'd get together and start drinking during the day to get ready for the pre-party drinking spot and it became about twelve solid hours of drinking. We could hardly even stand by the time we got to the actual parties."

The young man confirmed that the college atmosphere isn't what got him addicted to alcohol, but he claims that it did make it much worse and brought him to the bottom even faster.
